Carroll County Traffic Warrants Explained
A traffic warrant is a court order inside a court case. It grows out of an unpaid citation or a missed setting. The court that took the ticket controls what happens next. Mississippi treats traffic citations on their own footing. Rule 3.1 keeps the criminal rules from changing how tickets work for misdemeanor traffic violations, which stay under the uniform ticket law. The chain itself is short. First the citation, then a due date or court date, then payment or appearance. Miss that, and noncompliance follows, along with whatever warrant process the issuing court applies. Carroll County has published no warrant labels or timing of its own for those steps. The clerk's wording is the only version worth relying on.
Which Carroll County Court Holds the Warrant
The ticket answers this. Nothing else works as fast. A county road citation usually points to one of the two justice court districts, split north and south in Carroll County. A citation written inside a town may stay with that town or route into the county's justice court system.
Start here: match the court name printed on the citation to the phone list below. If the paper is lost, call the town where the stop happened and ask which court received the ticket.
Checking for a Traffic Warrant
Carroll County offers no official citation or warrant lookup for either justice court district or for any of the three towns. Every check is a call or a letter. Before dialing, gather the citation number, your full legal name, your date of birth, and the date printed on the ticket.
- Call the justice court district that covers the citation. Northern: 662-237-9699. Southern: 662-464-8868.
- Call the town office if a town officer wrote it. Carrollton 662-237-4600, North Carrollton 662-237-9268, Vaiden 662-464-5266.
- Ask whether the warrant file shows a payable amount, a required appearance, a collections referral, or a failure-to-appear entry.
- Call the sheriff at 662-237-9283 only after a court confirms that a warrant went out for service.
- Send a written request under the Mississippi Public Records Act if the phone route stalls.
Carroll County Traffic Warrant Contacts
These are published office contacts, not warrant hotlines, and none is labeled a traffic-warrant desk. Mailing addresses are post office boxes rather than counters, so confirm a physical Carroll County location before driving.
| Office | Phone | What to Ask |
|---|---|---|
| Northern Justice Court | 662-237-9699 | Citation status, failure to appear, payment or reset, next date |
| Southern Justice Court | 662-464-8868 | The same questions for the southern district |
| Carrollton town clerk | 662-237-4600 | Whether the town case uses a municipal court or county justice court |
| North Carrollton town office | 662-237-9268 | Which court holds the citation and where to pay or appear |
| Vaiden town clerk | 662-464-5266 | Town routing for an ordinance or traffic matter |
The county officials directory and the 2026 state directory both list these offices.
Inside a Traffic Warrant Record
Carroll County has no local portal to inspect. The fields describe what a clerk reads aloud, not what a screen displays. Read your number off the citation instead of assuming a format.
| Citation Number | The number printed on the ticket, written here as [citation number]; no local format has been published |
|---|---|
| Issuing Court | Northern Justice Court, Southern Justice Court, or a town court |
| Offense | The traffic violation as charged on the citation |
| Court Date | The appearance or payment deadline that was set |
| Status | Failure to appear, nonpayment, forfeiture, or a court-directed appearance issue |
| Amount | Fine, bond, or reinstatement figure; no Carroll County amount is published |
Carroll County Warrants From Town Tickets
One local document explains more than a portal would. The Town of Carrollton's April 2023 meeting minutes record that municipal court could use the existing county justice court system when possible. That line is the best published clue about why a town ticket in Carroll County may never spawn a separate municipal docket. Read it carefully. The minutes say "when possible," not "always." The other two towns publish nothing comparable. So treat the minutes as a reason to ask the town office where your ticket landed, not as a rule covering every case. The town's own minutes and its government page are the official sources for that discussion. City-level routing for all three towns sits on the municipal warrant page.
How to Pay or Lift a Traffic Warrant
Clearing runs through the issuing court. Carroll County has published no payment portal, fee schedule, payment-plan policy, or bond window. The amount and the accepted method both have to come from the clerk on the call. Ask before you travel, and ask what identification the office expects.
- Ask whether payment alone resolves the warrant or whether the judge requires an appearance.
- Ask for the exact total, including any added court or reinstatement cost.
- Ask which methods the office accepts and who is authorized to take the money.
- Ask whether a reset, a payment arrangement, or a motion to recall is available.
- Ask for a receipt and for the next required date before ending the call.
Caution: no official source promises that an unannounced visit clears a warrant, so confirm the arrangement with the clerk before appearing anywhere.
Payment Versus a Cleared Carroll County Warrant
Paying the fine and clearing the warrant are two separate events, and they do not always happen together. A citation can be satisfied while the case still requires an appearance, a judge's action, or a separate clerk entry. Ask the clerk to state, in the warrant file's own words, what changed after the payment posted and what remains open. Then ask whether anything else in Carroll County is still outstanding, because one court's record never speaks for another court's docket.
Traffic Warrants, FTA, and License Holds
Three different things get blurred here. A court order, a court status entry, and a state driving privilege are separate records kept by separate offices. Only a Carroll County court can fix the court side.
| Item | Who Holds It | How It Changes |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic warrant | The justice court or town court with the citation | Appearance, payment, reset, or a judge's recall |
| Failure-to-appear entry | The same court's case file | The clerk records the court's action on the case |
| License hold | The Mississippi Department of Public Safety | Court compliance first, then the state's own process |
Note: this is a court-record page, and Carroll County warrant status is a court question, not a driving-history or insurance question.
After a Carroll County Warrant Is Paid
State materials are unusually direct about the order of operations. The renewal guidance says you must clear the record and pay the fine at the court for Carroll County where the ticket was issued. The driver manual goes further. Where a license was deposited in place of bond, or where someone failed to appear, a corrected court abstract from the judge is required before reinstatement.

That official renewal page and the state driver manual put the court first in every version of the sequence for Carroll County.
- Resolve the citation and any warrant with the issuing court.
- Ask the clerk whether a corrected abstract or other compliance document applies to you.
- Ask how the court transmits that document and how long it usually takes.
- Take the state's own reinstatement steps only after the court side is closed.
If more than one Carroll County court may be involved, the sequence for checking each one sits on the warrant lookup page.
